An Afternoon at St. Martins Sea Caves
This visit was part of my Atlantic Canada road trip! Last summer my friend, Alyshia, and I spent two weeks driving around three different provinces, and while we were in Saint John, we did an afternoon in St. Martins.
Now, if you were doing a proper road trip, you’d probably stop in St. Martins, maybe stay over night, and then keep going. However, we did not do a lot of planning in terms of daily itinerary, so I’m pretty sure we decided to visit when we were in Saint John and looking up New Brunswick inspiration.

It’s only about 40 minutes away, so perfect for a little afternoon jaunt. If you go in the summer, the tide level is low enough that you can walk out to the cave. Just be sure to wear shoes you can slip on and off easily because they’ll get wet otherwise!

You can also go into the caves, which is always fun to do. They were formed from the Bay of Fundy tides. As far as I can remember both parking and entrance were free. You just pull up, park in the lot, and walk from there out to the caves if the tide is low. After we went in, we just kind of wandered around and enjoyed all the cool views.

Also in writing this, I’ve learned this area is the beginning of the Fundy Footpath, a 41km (~25miles) trail along the coast and now I want to go back and do trek the whole thing! (I texted Alyshia, tbd on how she reacts lol).

There are restaurants in the area, but we weren’t eating so we went towards the little town nearby. Very classic Atlantic Canadian coastal vibes.

Naturally, we got giant ice creams at Octopus, which is also part art gallery.

And wandered around the lighthouse. It’s also an information center but I think we were there late enough in the day that everything was closed.

Cutest little shops!!

All in all, a lovely afternoon trip! Of course, we were combining this with a morning and early afternoon in Saint John before turning around and driving back. If you were to stay overnight, there’s a lot of other things to do in the area. I’d personally come back just to do all the trekking we skipped out on because of our schedules, energy levels, and the weather. (Remember I had just driven 14 hours straight the day before and we had a long drive from Saint John to PEI the next day).
Let me know if you have more New Brunswick inspiration; I’m going to need a plan a trip just for this province!
