One of the best areas to stay in Seoul is in Jongno-gu. Here are the best hotels in Insadong to help you plan!
I’ve stayed in the area a few times, and it’s the best for seeing palaces and experience Korea’s more traditional culture vs the trendier or more popular. I highly recommend basing yourself here for at least a few nights to put you in the center of Seoul’s traditional side.

Insadong is by far the one area I’d recommend for anyone who’s visiting Seoul because of how central it is. Of all the popular neighborhoods, it’s probably the best suited for tourists in terms of airport transportation, getting around to the big landmarks, and getting a taste of Korea’s history.
This area is near some of the major landmarks — Gyeongbokgung, Chandeokgung, Bukchon Hanok Village, Gwanghwamun, Changgyeonggung, and much, much more. In fact, if you can, stay in Bukchon!

Where Else to Stay in Insadong
There are actually a lot of cute Airbnb apartments in Insadong and nearby. Just make sure you can see where they’ll be relative to the major sights and subway stations. I made the mistake of booking this one last time I stayed in the area, and while it was nice, it was not very conveniently located!
I actually stayed at this hanok on Airbnb, and it was right near Anguk Station, Exit 2, and SO cute and charming. My host was so nice, there was a washer I could use, and she made me a traditional Korean breakfast each morning.
Some I found:
- A cute hanok stay near Changgyeonggung and Anguk Station
- This studio in Ikseondong and only 5-minutes from Gwanghwamun
- This apartment near Jongno-3ga Station
