10 Top-Rated Hotels in Hongdae

Here are my picks among the top-rated guesthouses and hotels in Hongdae!  Whenever I think of where to stay in Seoul, I always choose in Hongdae. Of all the neighborhoods I’ve discussed — Insadong, Gangnam, and Myeongdong, I’ve stayed the most personally in Hongdae. Don’t worry, I’ve also added even more budget and Airbnb options down below!

Why Hongdae?

Hongdae is just a fun area to be in, and the surrounding neighborhoods, like Yeonnam, home to a bunch of trendy cafes in Seoul, and Mangwon, home to Zapangi Cafe, are even cooler. I’ve gotten both my tattoos in Hongdae and recently had the best hair cut at the Juno Hair near Hongik Uni. Station, Exit 2. I also got my most recent perm done through this Airbnb Experience.

A big thing for me, too, is that Hongdae is on the subway line and only an hour from the airport, so it makes a really good first and last stop on your trip. Just make sure your accommodation is actually conveniently located!

10 Top-Rated Hotels in Hongdae

And now for my picks for the best guesthouses and hotels in Hongdae!

1. RYSE, Autograph Collection Marriott

One of the two Autograph Collection hotels in Seoul! I forget where I said it, but as far as franchise hotels go, Autograph is my favorite. They generally allow their hotels feel like uniquely designed boutique hotels and each one is still quite individual. RYSE is close to Hongik Uni. Station, Exit 9. As you’d expect from a luxury hotel, there are some elevated aspects to RYSE, like Bluetooth speakers, valet parking, a rain shower, bathrooms, a fitness center, business center, and even a library. There are three onsite eateries — Long Chim, where you can get breakfast in the mornings and then Thai food for lunch an dinner, Tartine Bakery, and Le Chamber. There’s also Side Note Club onsite.

A tiny bit tucked away, Heima is closest to Hongik Uni. Station, Exit 7 or 6 but still a bit farther than Chuls Lodge. You can still expect a private bathroom for most rooms and a continental breakfast. Apparently the beds are quite comfy!

Where Else to Stay in Hongdae

Hostels in Hongdae

For other super budget hostels, try Liz’s House Hongdae, Twin Rabbit Guesthouse, or Kimchee Sinchon Guesthouse. I’ve personally stayed at Cocoa Guesthouse (when it was definitely called another name…). It was nice, but I remember it being a bit hard to find at first, and there’s a set of stairs to climb to get to the actual guesthouse! On my recent trip, I stayed at Woonji Stay which was wound up being nice but was initially quite the mess checking in. It looks like its rating on Booking has gone down a lot and it’s no longer available anyway.

Airbnbs in Hongdae

I’ve only stayed in a Airbnb in Hongdae once, and it was in a private room somewhere right between Hongik Univ. Station and Hapjeong Station. Sadly, it doesn’t seem available anymore, though the two owners were the sweetest! Here are some other places I’ve found:
